It usually happens in October. Somebody will always approach me and say "Hey, I have this idea for Homecoming this year...." I always listen patiently. Sometimes the ideas are great. Other times, they are so-so. Ultimately, I have to tell them that it's too late to implement that idea this year but I will definitely consider it for next year. The question I'm always left asking myself is "How long do people think it takes us to plan Homecoming?" I realize that we are just a tiny school in rural West Tennessee, but I think everybody knows that it takes more than two weeks to plan Homecoming......Right? Maybe not! Before I was in the event planning business, I had no idea. I had no idea how much work it takes to plan a luncheon for 30 people, much less a Homecoming for a few thousand! I had no idea about all of the reservations that have to be made, the menus that had to be planned, the workers that had to be notified, the mailings that had to be created and sent....these are just things you learn along the way.
Needless, to say we have already started planning Homecoming for this year! Our work usually begins in March or April and reaches a full crescendo in early November. The dates for Homecoming this year are November 4-10 and we will have an entire week of student activities, art, culture, great chapel presentations, basketball games, pep rallies and more! We are not ready to reveal our Homecoming look for this year, but we will do that in September. We want you to plan to spend a day or the entire week with us here at FHU. FHU is a special place and truly is "home" for so many people. We want you to keep in touch and especially to come see us. And please keep sending us your great ideas! We'll use them next year!
