One of the things I love most about my job is the preservation of old traditions and the start of new ones. One of the longest-running traditions on our campus is Hootenanny, put on each year by Phi Kappa Alpha. This year, the headlining act will be The Ruxpins. The Ruxpins are an up and coming band from Southeast Texas, and we’re excited to have them here on Freed-Hardeman’s campus. Hootenanny will be at 7pm on Saturday, November 10 in Bader Gym. Admission will be $8 for adults and $5 for students. Proceeds will go to the Jim Maxwell Scholarship Fund. Come enjoy visiting, great music, and refreshments and remember, as they say, "Hootenanny’s Happenin’!"
A new tradition this year will be our FHU Homecoming 5k for Mid-South Youth Camp. The race will be held in conjunction with the new Associates Pancake Breakfast. Both events will be on Saturday, November 10, with the breakfast starting at 7:30am and the race starting at 8am. There will also be a Joe Delay Honorary Speed Walk category! The proceeds of the 5k will go to MSYC and the proceeds of the breakfast will go to student scholarships through the Associates.
