Life in a small town is a great thing, but Henderson is not your typical small town. With an active college campus, that small town atmosphere has even more to offer. The perks of small town living, mixed with a full campus calendar, adds up to plenty to get involved with.
Here are a few local favorite things to see and do that you don't want to miss out on:
Bell’s Hamburgers
Bell's Drive In has received The Tennessee Magazine's "Best Non-Franchised Hamburger" award for the past several years.
Bear Trace Golf Course
A Jack Nickalus designed golf course, the Bear Trace at Chickasaw is located approximately 10 minutes west of Henderson. Recently named "One of the Top Ten You Can Play" by Golf Magazine.
Chickasaw State Park
Located about 10 minutes west of Henderson, Chickasaw State Rustic Park is situated on some of the highest terrain in west Tennessee. Activities at Chickasaw include biking, hiking, boating, camping, horseback riding, swimming, tennis, basketball, archery, playgrounds, and sand volleyball. Chickasaw also has a restaurant, lodging and meeting facilities.
Annual Christmas Parade
Each year the Chamber produces the Henderson Christmas Parade, an old-fashioned Christmas parade featuring lighted floats, marching bands, walking groups, antique cars, and, of course, Santa Claus. The event is held annually on the first Thursday of December.
Barbecue Festival
The festival, founded as a family celebration, focuses on great BBQ, entertainment, community involvement and good times for all ages. Located in across the street from Freed-Hardeman, students can get a taste of the best barbecue in the world and socialize with Henderson’s finest.
