Horizons at Freed-Hardeman University, July 4-9

 What's Horizons?

Horizons is a week-long spiritual experience for Christian leaders in grades 7-12 held each summer on the campus of Freed-Hardeman University. This year we’ll be celebrating our 30th year the week of July 4-9. It’s been an incredible 30 years of impacting young leaders, and the focus that created the program continues to this day as we strive to build an encouraging environment that works to equip young church leaders. Horizons is directed by David Powell, assistant dean of the School of Biblical Studies He is assisted by Kim Cook, Chris Creecy, Linda Lipe, Brad Montague, Cathy Powell, Becky Welch and excellent staff of more than 100 counselors and teachers.

 What's the point?

This year our theme is ‘Directions.’ It’s about where you’ve been in your spiritual life, where you are now and where you want to go next in your spiritual journey. Navigating life can sometimes be difficult, especially if you don’t have any direction. This week we’ll use the Bible as our compass to get headed in the right direction.

 What's it like?

Each day is filled with exciting classes, activities, games, group discussion and more. This year you’ll even have the opportunity to take part in real-life service projects. Each night you’ll hear dynamic speakers and worship with other Christian teenagers like yourself. You’ll get to spend time at the coffeehouse, play ball or join in on any of the other countless activities that you won’t want to miss.

 Where will I stay?

Each night you’ll call one of FHU’s dormitories your home. There you’ll find a supportive group of counselors and friends who’ll help make your week at Horizons one that you’ll never forget. As you register you can request a certain roommate. You and your roommate will be assigned to the appropriate dormitory according to your age group. Housing requests will be accommodated as much as possible. However, due to the large number of campers and limited number of beds, please respect room assignments.

 What will the
classes be like?

Daily classes provide insight and excellent instruction on Christian leadership, service, spiritual growth and current issues. They are designed to equip and inspire leaders like you.

 What should I bring
and wear?

You will need to bring a pillow, twin-bed linens, towels and toiletries for the week, and, of course, your Bible. You may also want to bring athletic clothing (such as a swimsuit) and equipment (like a softball glove). Dress for Horizons is informal but must abide by the FHU dress code. Rollerblades, scooters and skateboards are not permitted.

 How much does Horizons cost?

The fee for Horizons is $200. You can pay all of this online when you register or you can send in a check. If sending a check you must at least send a $100 deposit. This is required to ensure you are registered. You may also send the full $200 with your application. There will be a $10 processing charge for cancellations. The fee covers the cost of housing and three meals a day plus special events, instructions, counselor supervision, awards, t-shirt and registration packet. You will also need your own spending money for nightly pizza, drinks, snacks and the FHU Bookstore.
