Major in Convergent Media

Across all forms of mass communication, there is growing demand for multimedia reporters or content producers. Print publications are adding audio and video to their stories. Broadcast outlets are engaging their audiences through websites and online social media. This “convergence” of traditional and new communication methods has created exciting job opportunities for people with a broad skill set.

Students majoring in Convergent Media gain hands-on experience with interactive media and digital networks, providing them with the opportunity to the knowledge and skills necessary for entry into the digital communication industry. Students are challenged to express meaning in variety of ways: writing for media, principles of visual design, the creation of sound environments, video storytelling, and interactive multimedia design. Realistic, creative, and challenging learning experiences occur both within the classroom and through co-curricular activities. These learning experiences focus on preparing communication content that will work effectively across multiple forms of media. Students work with our campus television station “FHn,” campus radio station “WFHU,” and online campus newspaper “The Bell Tower.”
