English

So why major in English? The question was put to last year's Introduction to English Studies class. Here is how collectively they answered:

"Communication is of the utmost importance in today's world. A person who can mold and sculpt language can accomplish so many great things. Good communicators are needed in every professional field, and an English major is trained to effectively convey ideas and information through writing. In other words, employers love good written communicators."

"Moreover, the English curriculum indulges a love of reading, learning, and exploring possibilies. Quite simply, the English major is a most intellectually challenging course of study, and the enhanced critical thinking and writing skills will exponentially contribute to professional and humanistic endeavors."

"A degree in English studies will refine skills in research, critical thinking, analysis, writing, speaking, designing and directing projects, interpreting literature and other texts, thinking independently, editing and revising, interpreting data, making oral presentations, and so on."
