Major in Journalism

The FHU Journalism major is designed to prepare students to gain an entry-level job in journalism or other media-related field. You will take courses that ask you to write hard news, feature news, and editorials. You will also receive instruction in photography, ethics, research, and communication theories. All of these courses combine to prepare a student for the changing landscape of journalism. You will also complete at least two field lab experiences with on-campus media outlets; these are like internships where you work with campus media and learn about radio, television, and newspapers.

You will also have classes that address the use of social media and the growth of blogging as a substitute for a daily news feed. The curriculum is designed in such a way to take advantage of the changing face of technology and how it is impacting journalism.
