Our Mission
The mission of the Department of Communication and Literature is to help students develop oral and written communication skills that will enhance their personal effectiveness, prepare them for careers in various communication fields, and develop intellectual tools necessary for success in the university and beyond.


Why study here?
The department offers the following degrees: B.A. or B.S. in Communication; B.A. in Convergent Media; B.A. in Electronic Media; B.A. in Journalism; B.A. or B.S. in Public Relations; B.A. in English; and B.A. in Spanish (pending final approval by the university’s Board of Trustees). The department also offers minors in Broadcasting, Communication, English, French, Journalism, and Spanish.

The Department of Communication and Literature can help students prepare for a career in a chosen journalism, convergent media, or languages.

The faculty includes dedicated professionals. Their passion for language, media and journalism encourages students to become actively engaged in learning and developing the skills necessary to be successful in their chosen field. The low student-faculty ratio in courses required for the major, also allows individual attention and training for students.

Multiple opportunities are provided for students to showcase their talents in their chosen field. Those experiences help the students to gain confidence as they prepare to pursue careers in communication.

The Department of Communication and Literature provides students with opportunities for learning outside of the classroom. Students gain valuable experience in practicums and internships, which provide students with hands-on training that leads to careers in communications. These opportunities allow students to showcase their talents in their chosen field.
