Freed-Hardeman
University’s Music Division of the Department of Fine Arts prepares
professional musicians and music educators, provides every student at
the University a chance to experience music and serves as a center of
musical art and culture for Henderson and the surrounding West
Tennessee area.
The FHU Music Division provides a quality curriculum that combines
theory, history, music education, and performance in low
student-faculty ratio classes. A distinguished faculty of scholars,
educators, and performers with expertise in their field of specialty
will guide the music major in his/her studies. Vocal and instrumental
performing groups, open to majors and non-majors alike, offer students
many opportunities to perform. Private instruction in both piano and
voice is available.
The Bachelor of Arts in Music (B.A.) with a performance emphasis
(voice or piano) is offered. Teaching Licensure in Music,
Vocal/General, is available by completion of the B.A. in Music as well
as the required professional education courses. A minor in music is
also available.
Regardless of whether you are considering a professional career in
music or want to pursue it as an avocation, whether you want to refine
your skills as a performer, or deepen your understanding as a listener,
come and explore the opportunities that await you at Freed-Hardeman
University.
