Major in Biology

A Biology degree gives the student a foundation in all aspects of biology: botany, zoology, cell biology, genetics, etc. The BS in Biology is designed for pre-professional majors (pre-med, pre-dental, pre-optometry, medical technology, etc.) or for students wanting to go on to graduate school or to work with environmental opportunities (parks, water testing, etc.). A chemistry minor is required for the BS in Biology. The BA is Biology is designed for pre-physical therapy, pre-occupational therapy or Biology education majors. With this degree a student does not have to have a chemistry minor. While at FHU, students may be a member of the BIO (Beta Iota Omicron) Club or the ACS (American Chemical Society). There are also undergraduate research opportunities for students through the Research Center.

There is more information for pre-health arts majors on the homepage of the School of Sciences & Mathematics. Students interested in the Health Arts may contact Dwina Willis at dwillis@fhu.edu. Students interested in environmental sciences may contact Paul Fader at pfader@fhu.edu. Others may contact Brian Butterfield, Department Chair and Director of the Research Center, at bbutterfield@fhu.edu.
