Chemistry Research

Selenium Content in Tennessee Soils - In the Anderson Science Center, research will be conducted to measure the selenium content in the soil in Tennessee using atomic absorption techniques, developing metastatic tumor models in mice in a chemical induced sarcoma model and the development of spontaneous tumors in retired breeders.  Various research projects in both proton and C-13 Nuclear Magnetic Resonance will be conducted. Dr. Jerry Thornthwaite is mentor of the team conducting this research.

Manuscript Preparation - The work being conducted at the Research Center involves in part the preparation of manuscripts for the following research projects: a new flow cytometric-based microsphere assay for measuring hydrophobic and hydrophilic oxidation; preparation of a review article on the anti-cancer effects of nutraceuticals; tissue localization of the 16mer CARE antigen in human cancers and high resolution DNA measurements in ovarian cancer. Dr. Jerry Thornthwaite is mentor of the team conducting this research.
