Behavioral Sciences Bridge Program

The Behavioral Sciences Bridge program is designed to prepare undergraduate students for pursuit of a graduate degree in behavioral sciences, and especially relevant to students who desire to pursue a clinical mental health counseling degree. Students who complete the Behavioral Sciences Bridge program will complete 13 hours of graduate-level coursework in place of elective requirements within their B.S. or B.S.W. degree in behavioral sciences. Students who complete the Behavioral Sciences Bridge program within their degree at FHU who are subsequently accepted into the M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at FHU will be allowed to count these same graduate courses towards the M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree program. (The courses will be subject to the time limits and all other policies of the M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree.)

 

Admission to Behavioral Sciences Bridge

Students are advised to apply to the Behavioral Sciences Bridge program during the advising period of the spring of their junior year. Students must meet the following requirements for acceptance into the Behavioral Sciences Bridge program:

  1. Declared major in a behavioral sciences degree (Family Studies, Criminal Justice, Psychology, or Social Work).

  2. Complete at least 12 hours of behavioral sciences coursework at FHU with a grade of “C” or better.

  3. A cumulative GPA of 3.000 or above.

  4. Complete PSY210 General Psychology and PSY218 Abnormal Psychology with a grade of “C” or better.

  5. Academic classification as a senior.

  6. Approved application for the Behavioral Sciences Bridge program.

Students admitted into the Behavioral Sciences Bridge program enroll in the following graduate-level courses which count towards the undergraduate electives required for their behavioral science program of study.

Transitioning from the Behavioral Sciences Bridge Program to the M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program

Students who have been accepted into the Behavioral Sciences Bridge coursework are encouraged to apply to the M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. The pathway works as follows:

  1. Acceptance to Behavioral Sciences Bridge program (see requirements earlier in this catalog). Students should apply to the Behavioral Sciences Bridge program during the spring semester of their junior year.

  2. Complete the Behavioral Sciences Bridge program requirements during the student’s senior year.

  3. During the final semester of undergraduate study, the student is advised to apply for early admission to the M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.

  4. Upon completion of the bachelor’s degree (including the Behavioral Sciences Bridge program), the student will then graduate with their bachelor’s degree.

  5. Upon admission into the M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, the student will then complete all other requirements of the degree (an additional 48 hours of graduate coursework), which can be completed in approximately 1.5 years after completion of the Behavioral Sciences Bridge program.

 

Note: Successful completion of the Behavioral Sciences Bridge program does not guarantee admission into the M.S. in Clinical Mental Health program.
