Graduation Requirements

All students who are planning on participating in graduation must take the following steps:

1.  Prepare a completed counseling guide with your advisor.

Graduation FAQ

What is the time and date of graduation?  

  • May graduation will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014.

How do I complete my application for graduation?

  • The application will be completed online on the FHU website (  From the home page:  1) Click the Academics tab at the top.  2) Click the Academic Success tab on the right.  3) Click the Registrar tab on the right.  4) Click the Graduation Requirements tab.  5) Click the link for Undergraduate Application to Graduate.
When is my graduation application due to the Registrar's Office?
  • Graduation applications are to be submitted to the Registrar's office on the first floor of the Gardner Center by 5:00 p.m. on January 31, 2014.  The application will not be available after this date.  
What are the different types of graduation honors, and how are they determined?
  • The three graduation honors are summa cum laude, magna cum laude, and cum laude.  Honors are determined by a student's GPA the semester prior to the semester of his or her graduation.  For May graduates, this would be the GPA at the end of the summer or fall semester (whichever was the last attended).  GPA requirements are as follows:  Summa Cum Laude- 3.850, Magna Cum Laude- 3.600, Cum Laude- 3.400.  
How do I order graduation announcements and/or a class ring?
  • All graduation materials (i.e.- announcements, rings, etc.) will be ordered through Herff-Jones at this website:  Once you are on the site, search for Freed-Hardeman University and you will find the options that are specific to our graduates.  If you have any trouble or questions about the site, please contact the FHU Bookstore manager, Logan Hawley, at  
What is the best way to communicate graduation information to my family?
  • Students are ultimately responsible for communicating all graduation details to their family.  Information concerning graduation can also be found under the registrar's section of the FHU website.
How and where do I get my regalia?
  • Graduation regalia may be picked up at the University Bookstore beginning May 5, 2014.  Graduation regalia must be picked up before 9:00 a.m. on May 17, 2014.  Regalia will not be shipped to individual students.
How and where do I  get my regalia if I am a Memphis student?
  • Memphis students may email Logan Hawley ( by May 6, 2014, to request that their regalia be delivered to the Memphis campus.  Any student who requests that his or her regalia be delivered to the Memphis campus may pick up his or her regalia on Thursday, May 8, 2014, between 3:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.  Any regalia that is not picked up at the Memphis campus at the specified time will be available at the University bookstore.  If you do not wish for your regalia to be brought to the Memphis campus, you may pick up your regalia at the University bookstore.
What time is rehearsal?
  • Graduation rehearsal will begin Friday, May 16, 2014, at 10:00am in Loyd Auditorium.
What should I wear to rehearsal?
  • Men and women should wear clothing appropriate to the FHU dress code.
What should I wear to graduation?
  • Men should wear white dress shirts with a dark tie and dark dress pants.  Black dress shoes are preferable, but not required.  Women should wear a simply-styled light-weight dress without a high neckline or a blouse paired with dark dress slacks and dark shoes.  
May I decorate the top of my cap?
  • To preserve the formality of the event, graduates may not decorate the tops of their graduation caps.
What seating will be available for guests?
  • The main floor and balcony will be available for guests of graduates.  Due to the high volume of anticipated guests, seat saving is not permitted.
Is the stage handicap accessible?
  • The stage is handicap accessible.  Please notify Kaylan Stewart ( before Thursday, May 1, 2014, if you need mobility assistance.
When will I receive my diploma?
  • During the graduation ceremony, students will receive their diploma cover.  After the ceremony, graduates may pick up their diplomas in the Auxiliary Gym located in the Brewer Sports Center.
Will I be able to use my FHU email address after I graduate?
  • Graduates have access to student email accounts for six months after their last registered semester.  A notice is sent to all accounts 30 days prior to the account being closed.
