I don't know about you, but I've got Spring Fever. At Freed-Hardeman, Spring is an especially exciting time of year. Fall is a season of meeting new faces, Homecoming activity and getting settled...but Spring has an energy all its own. Springtime at FHU carries a feeling of excitement. With Makin' Music on the way, it's hard not to be excited! Also, for our seniors, Spring is a time of mixed emotions of excitement of graduation, anticipation of life after school, anxiety of job searches and for some, weddings or leaving for missions in foreign lands.
I think my first twinge of Spring Fever hit two weeks ago (early, I know!) as I left the back doors of Loyd Auditorium and heard the familiar crack of baseball bats from the baseball field! Nothing says Spring to me like baseball. Our baseball team is already having a successful season and with so many great players, I know they will be successful both on and off the field. Basketball season is drawing to a close already. It's hard to believe that March and tournament time is upon us already.
One thing that we have already completed is the FHU Lectureship that was held February 2-7. What a week it was! Thousands of people come from all over the country and all over the world to sit at the feet of some of the finest speakers around. I know the week was uplifting to me. I heard rave reviews from many people. This year, we had uncharacteristically beautiful weather. In the past, we have battled blizzards and tornadoes, but this year with temperatures in the 60's, we almost didn't know what to do with ourselves.
I truly love Fall. Fall is our busiest time of year for our office - with Homecoming and all the work it entails. But...there is something truly special about Spring. I hope you will come to campus and visit us some time in the next couple of months and experience the excitement for yourselves. We would love to see you any time - but especially in the Spring!
