With over 1200 youth in attendance, FHU just ended R.U.S.H. (Reaching Unlimited Spiritual Heights) 2012 on its campus. The theme this year was “Beautiful Things” and we took a deeper look at what God believes is beautiful. The keynote speaker was David Shannon, the minister at the Mount Juliet congregation in Mount Juliet, TN.
Brother Shannon reflected on the idea of what society believes is beautiful and what the Bible teaches about beauty. We know that in Scripture “…the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart” (1 Sam. 16:7). However, the world tells us to look only at the outward appearance. Shannon gave us many profound statements and images to consider when such worldly thoughts enter our mind.
The one image I truly remember and will always remember is the video of Lacey and Christian Buchanan. Lacey Buchanan, a Tennessee mother, composes a video about her son born blind and with cleft lip and palate. Christian, being a young infant, does not know that people stare or talk rudely about him. He is a child, an innocent and beautiful child of God, who loves to laugh and play. It is truly an inspirational video and one that I would encourage everyone to watch.
We hope you make plans to attend R.U.S.H. next year and every year as we continue to dive into God's word and His way of life for us.
