Senior English and Philosophy major Jerica Bell recently presented research on Sylvia Plath, Anne Sexton, and Adrienne Rich as part of a panel discussion on fairy tales. Sponsored by Alpha Chi honor society, the panel was part of an inaugural series of programs called "Time Travel," which looks at events in a particular year or time period and how those events have shaped our lives today. This year's series focused on 1812, the year the Grimm Brothers published their first collection of fairy tales.
Bell's research was for a paper for her Women Writers class with Dr. Margaret Payne. Bell looked at three poems that adapt and critique traditional fairy tales from a feminist perspective: Plath's "Cinderella," Sexton's "Cinderella," and Rich's "The Knight."
