From the pen of Dr. Sam Jones
Over the years, untold millions of books have been printed. Scholars, historians, and my sweet grandmother, Naomi, agree that the Bible is the greatest book ever printed. The Bible transcends any culture, race, gender, social-class, continent, time, etc. This great book was written with unbelievable accuracy and consistency over a period of about 1500 years or some 40 generations. The Bible is beyond amazement; it’s a miracle. It has only one Author (Jehovah-God) and 40 writers. These writers wrote their portion of the great book from one of three continents (Africa, Asia, and Europe) and in three languages (Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek). Yet, it contains no contradictions or errors. It is an extraordinary book. Each writer was permitted to use his unique writing style, but they could only write what the Holy Spirit guided them to write. Thus, the Bible is completely the inerrant word of God.
The Bible boldly makes the following claim about itself, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God…” (2 Tim. 3:16). Every scripture of the Bible is “God-breathed.” Paul affirmed in this passage that God (Jehovah) not man breathed out the content of the Bible. He stated “All”, i.e., the complete content of the Bible is from God through the Holy Spirit breathing into the mind of each writer. The Bible was written by writers from different and diverse walks of life, e. g., a king (David), a political leader (Moses), a physician (Luke), a tax collector (Matthew), a cowboy (Amos), a tentmaker (Paul), a military general (Joshua) and others. They not only wrote from different continents but from different places and circumstances. Moses wrote in the wilderness; John did his writing after being exiled on the isle of Patmos; Paul did the bulk of his writing while incarcerated; some writers wrote during a time of deep despair or war and others during a time of joy and peace. Regardless of the time, place or situation, the unity of the writers of the Bible testifies that it’s not the work of men.
Peter acknowledged the writers of this book were kept from writing their personal plans and explanations, but they were instructed and guided to convey only God’s plans and His purposes (2 Pet. 1:21). These inspired men wrote exactly what the Author wanted them to write – nothing more and nothing less. Therefore, the Psalmist was able to declare his writings were pure, perfect or flawless (Psa. 12:6; 19:7).
The Bible, the greatest book ever-written, is complete, accurate, “God-breathed”, without error, powerful, living, perfect, enlightening, trustworthy, true, and much, much more (Psa. 9:7-10; Heb. 4:12). It demands our respect and attention. It contains a loving and beautiful message from the Creator of all things on how to gain access into the Paradise of Heaven.
