Taming of The Shrew

March 29, 2011 2:55 PM

I suppose I should update you all. I did get a part in the play Taming of the Shrew. My part is Tranio, who if you are wondering, is a man. So far I am not sure I am doing very well at acting manly since I have never done so before. On top of that, my character in the play imitates another man. It's like acting within acting within acting - watch Inception. If you are entirely unfamiliar with Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew, you should definitely watch the movie Ten Things I Hate About You. Not because it's necessarily accurate to the original plot, but it is close enough to catch you up to speed. All of those who dwell near Henderson should come see the play April 21-23!

Also, this weekend is Makin Music!

I cannot take credit for this photo.

Lately...

February 22, 2011 3:05 PM

As I am sure everyone is curious to know, Pope Finedict is doing well and has officially outlived at least one of my previous fish.

A few things have happened since I last blogged. I got hired for two more wedding jobs this summer (perhaps some of my readers know that I am a wedding photographer). That was exciting for me. Due to those new jobs I also got an account with a professional printer. Valentines Day was last week. I didn't really do anything exciting, as I never really do anything big for Valentines Day. However, I did get one particularly awesome gift. Joshua got me a giant stuffed fish friend since I cannot really play with Pope Finedict. :)

I have also taken up knitting. I am about half way through my first scarf and I must that I am pretty proud of myself. I'll be really glad when I'm all done and I can learn to do something more complicated. Knitting has been really fun for me to learn and just do in my spare time. It's mindless but enjoyable at the same time. Plus, when you're done you get something you can keep and wear! This is my scarf!

Tonight I am trying out for the upcoming play The Taming of the Shrew. I'll let you know how it turns out. I need something to occupy all the free time I have. I have a very easy semester...

My New Roommate

January 19, 2011 10:16 PM

I have returned to Freed-Hardeman for my third to last semester of college - sentiment that is both exciting and very scary. The classes I'm taking this semester are going to be really interesting and I am at least not dreading attending them. I'm taking classes like Human Sexuality and Diversity in America, neither of which pertain to my major. Part of me thinks that is why I am interested in taking them. It will be something to be involved in that is non-art for the first time in a long time.

I have a new roommate. It's a fish. Here he is.

He is a very attractive fellow, though his camera shy nature has perhaps prevented you from being able to see his handsomeness in this photo. His name is Pope Finedict Aloicious Ratzinger. Pope Finny for short. His full name is derived from both the taken and given name of the current pope Benedict XVI, whose birth name is Joseph Aloicious Ratzinger, and who has (obviously) taken the name Benedict. Don't worry, I know it's a bit eccentric. Anyway, pray he lives. I have a tendency to unintentionally kill fish.

half-way

October 25, 2010 2:11 PM

Last week was the official "half-way" point of the semester. I seriously cannot believe how fast this semester has gone by. This is tragic to say, but I don't feel like I have done anything yet. This semester has by far been my busiest ever, but it's not just me! I've asked my friends if they feel like this semester has flown by, and they agree. Maybe there is something off in the universe...

Well here are a few things I have been doing lately. I signed up for the Inaugural Walker 5k Run to help prevent cardiovascular disease. I'm really excited because it will be my first race. I've always wanted to be involved in things like Race for the Cure and Team in Training. The fact that people are willing to do something great for somebody else through a means that helps keep their own bodies healthy is just really cool to me. This particular race is in Henderson so I really had no reason not to sign up. Also, you get a t-shirt for participating. I'll do anything that involves a t-shirt. If you are interested in the race here is a link!

On a similar note, my friend Macey Baze is participating in the Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes in Nashville the same weekend. Both of these are really great causes and if you would like to participate in either I encourage you to do so. Here is a link to sponsor Macey and her team.

In other news: Josh and I have been dating for a year now, which I personally find exciting.

That's all for now :)

The series of events so far

September 13, 2010 9:11 AM

This semester has been hectic and a half! I'm taking more hours than I've ever taken in previous semesters, as well as working in the AV Library and doing an internship in HoMUR. Even though I'm really busy, I love all the things I'm doing. I love (most of) my classes, and since I'm addicted to movies i've thoroughly enjoyed working in the AV Library. Of course, I've enjoyed having my internship with Kristi Montague. In the midst of all my business some pretty cool things have happened.

- E. Claude Gardner spoke to me in the Sports Center and told me that I was a good runner and that he hopes to see me again. :) That made my day.

- Everyone on campus got married (not literally, though it wouldn't be a stretch). One morning we woke up and EVERY car on campus said "JUST MARRIED" on the back. It was actually pretty impressed by the prank. I mean, that takes time. It was also pretty fun to see how people responded to Josh and i on the road when we drove to Oklahoma and Texas.

- I drove to Oklahoma and Texas over the weekend! We drove 21 hours in less than 60 hours of time. It was pretty intense, but we had fun. :)

- My roommate got engaged!

That's pretty much my FHU life thus far.

Summer 2010 Highlights

August 7, 2010 12:03 PM
When I first sat down to blog, I thought I'd had a pretty uneventful summer. Nothing much to write about. When I really broke my summer down, though, I've actually done a lot. Here, I'll show you. My very first week out of school I went on a National/State Park Road Trip Extravaganza. I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time, along with several other cool parks and sites. Of course, by the end of 9 days I was ready to never be in a car again, but the trip itself was neat. Here's a picture from Zion National Park, which was my favorite stop we made.
Almost immediately after returning from our road trip, I had to start summer school. I was taking a physical science class at a nearby community college to finish up my general education classes and I was not looking forward to it. Much to my surprise... I really enjoyed it! I had a great teacher, met a lot of cool people, and built a working rocket and got to see it launch. Sadly, I don't have any pictures of the aforementioned rocket, but it looked almost exactly like this:

Well I finished summer school and got a big shiny A on my transcript. :) When I was done with school my boyfriend Joshua came down to visit me and celebrate my birthday. One of the things we did was go to the zoo, because though I am an adult I still think zoos are thrilling.

To celebrate my birthday Joshua made me a stellar cookie cake, which we decorated ourselves. We weren't the best cake decorators, but the cake was delicious either way and the process was really fun. If nothing else, my birthday cake was original. The week of my actual birthday I was at E.W.E.S. camp. You don't know what that is, I know. It stands for Equipping Women for Excellent Service and it's a project one of the women at a congregation in my town has been working on for years now. Young women were invited to a week of camp where they learned to be better servants by learning to teach bible classes, throw showers, be evangelical, be good parents and wives, serve their communities and families, and be better students of the Bible. It was a great week. One night after everyone else had gone to sleep some of the older girls and I upheld a camp tradition to have a toga party. It's a tradition that can't be explained if you're not a part of it, but either way... here's a delightful picture to end on.

My Heart is in Honduras

April 5, 2010 3:26 PM

Spring Break was one of the most wonderful weeks of my life up to this point. I went with Theta Nu Epsilon to Tegucigalpa, Honduras for a one week mission trip to work with TORCH mIssions. It was a wonderful week full of service and showing Christ to others. Some of our mission efforts included working with the Casa de Esperanza childrens home, serving food at the feeding center, distributing food to needy families, visiting a children's hospital, building three wooden houses and one brick house, hosting several VBS sessions, serving food at the city dump, and visiting the school of the blind. The people I met had so much of an impact on me. They were loving, kind and eager for the word of God. The children especially were precious. These are some of the children I met on my trip.

Spring... Maybe.

March 16, 2010 5:54 PM

Last week was WONDERFUL. All of a sudden the awful winter weather, which has kept the student body cold and confined to indoor activities, broke and and the sun finally came out. Unfortunately, it seems to have been a one week teaser spring. The weather was a perfect 60-70 degrees every day of last week. Students were holding study sessions outside in the commons, playing at nearby parks, and enjoying the spring time bliss. In fact, the weather even put the faculty in a good mood. My painting teacher allowed us an excused absence if we showed him proof at our next class meeting that we spent time outside enjoying the weather. All but two students took him up on that offer and went to spend time in the wonderful weather. I went to a nearby park and studied for a test and took some pictures, which I then used as my "proof" of spending time outdoors at our next class meeting. Said pictures are below:

Boys, Short-Shorts and Mud...

February 14, 2010 2:26 PM

The title of this blog describes the basics of what was going on at Saturday's rugby game. If that isn't enough excitement for you... we won! :) I stayed for a little over an hour watching my very first rugby game and I must say it was very interesting. The highlights would definitely include the refs pink rugby jersey, the potent smell of the mud that surrounded the field and the fact that it was approximately ten degrees warmer that day than it had been all week long. Congrats Freed-Hardeman rugby. Here's some pictures.

Photography Project Uno

February 10, 2010 5:26 PM
I've been crazy busy lately and most of what I've been doing is taking pictures. I guess that's the best kind of busy to be since picture taking is what I most enjoy doing. Just for fun, here are some of my pictures from my latest photography project.
