A glimpse of life.

September 28, 2009 12:41 PM
I went on my first road trip (since I’ve been at FHU) this past weekend with some of my closest freshman girlfriends. We had a fun weekend filled with concerts, home-cooked meals, Alabama football, shopping, and cheesecake. I didn’t get much sleep this past weekend (probably less than 5 hours each night), and when this morning rolled around, I started paying for it big time.

Sore throat. Headache. Gross cough. Aching body. I’m not the type of person that gets sick very often, but when I don’t get enough sleep, getting sick is my body’s way of telling me, “I WILL make you get sleep.” So, I went to the doctor this morning, my sweet, sweet mother brought me some medicine, and I slept the rest of the day away.

It’s been hard adjusting to college life. You definitely don’t get as much sleep as you would like. You spend more money than you have. You get stressed over school. However, it’s all worth it because, when you are here at Freed Hardeman University, you are having the time of your life. You meet people who will change your life forever. You make memories you will never forget, and, most importantly, you grow closer to your God, your creator, your redeemer, and your best friend.

rain, rain, go away.

September 18, 2009 1:48 PM
I had an hour to get ready this morning. I took a quick shower, then went to my way too small closet to find something to wear. Twenty minutes later, I did my make up and then dried and straightened my hair. I looked in the mirror and knew it would be a good day. As soon as I walked outside, I immediately became frustrated. Sheets of rain. Great gusts of wind. Humidity was insane. I ran back to my room, grabbed an umbrella, and then hurried out into the madness so I wouldn’t be late to my first class.

I decided today that I hate puddles and my 7 dollar umbrella from Wal-Mart. When I got to my first class, my pants were soaked half way up my leg. My clothes were wet where the rain blew on me. My hair was frizzy, damp, and tangled. This can’t happen anymore. So, I decided to run to Target to get a new umbrella and some rain boots.

I talked my best friend into going to Jackson with me to Target, and as I turned the key to start my car, I heard a small sputter, and then dead quiet. Perfect. I had left my Ipod hooked up to my car the night before, and it had drained the car’s battery. I called campus security and that angel of a man came and jumpstarted my car. We drive to Jackson, shop a little bit, and then get in the car to drive home. My car is completely dead. Keep in mind that it is STILL raining buckets and buckets. We get a police officer to jump my car off, we make it back to Freed, and I go that afternoon to get a new battery for my car. What a day. Note to self and future students of FHU: When you come to Freed-Hardeman University, make sure you have a reliable battery in your car, a really big umbrella, a good rain jacket, and some fun-print rain boots. (That last one was directed toward girls!)

In return for going to Jackson with me and suffering through that terrible afternoon, I did a photoshoot of Kathleen :)
