About Elizabeth Saunders

I have been a teacher at Freed-Hardeman University since 1978. I currently serve as a tenured professor of Education. My major interests include teaching reading, corrective and remedial reading instruction, instructional strategies for both elementary and secondary students, differentiated instruction, classroom management, instructional supervision, and culturally responsive teaching.

During my tenure at Freed-Hardeman University, I was the recipient of the Distinguished Professor Award for the years of 1995-1998.

Working at Freed-Hardeman has given me the opportunity to meet individuals who directed and coordinated Tennessee's Reading Excellence Grant and Tennessee's Reading First Grant. This interaction has given me the opportunity to receive state and national training as a Reading Cadre for the State of Tennessee.

Working at Freed-Hardeman has also given me the opportunity to conduct numerous professional development workshops and seminars on the local, state, national and international levels, as well as participate in areas of service on these levels.

Some of my hobbies are reading, walking, and flower gardening. Some of my interests are traveling, especially participating in mission trips, and learning about other cultures. I have had the opportunity to travel to several countries of the world. Some of those trips have been mission trips and some of the trips have been tours. Some of the mission trips I have participated in are: Aruba (two trips); Sopot, Poland (four trips); Jamaica (two trips); Russia; Nigeria; Guatemala; and Haiti. Other countries (cultures) I have visited are: China, Egypt, England, France, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Israel, Italy, Mexico, and Jordan.
