An endowed scholarship fund is an opportunity to establish a permanent legacy at FHU. Endowed scholarships are named scholarship funds that expend income as dictated by the donors. It is permanent because only the interest income from the invested principal amount is expended annually.
How to Establish an Endowed Scholarship:
Make a Gift to an Existing Endowed Scholarship
If you would like to make a gift to an already established Endowed Scholarship you can do so by indicating the name of that Endowed Scholarship in the comments section of the online gift form.
If you do not know the name of the Endowed Scholarship or would like to see what Scholarships are available to give to you can refer to this list of Endowed Scholarships.
Here are the most common Endowed Scholarships given to each year:
Amy Rebekah Glass Memorial Academic Scholarship:
Established in memory of Amy Rebekah Glass. Recipients shall be Education or Social Work Majors.
Associates Endowed Scholarship:
Established by the FHU Associates to provide financial assistance to students with need, academic promise, leadership and Christian character.
The Bobby Mays Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established to remember the life of Bobby Mays. It is to be awarded to students from the Pinellas Park Church of Christ in Pinellas Park, Florida.
Donna White Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established in memory of Donna White. Intended to be awarded to students who are members of the church, with financial need.
John and Davida Hollingsworth Honors College Travel Endowment Fund:
Is intended to benefit students and faculty associated with the Honors College of Freed-Hardeman University. The Honors College has a tradition of funding cultural travel and travel to academic conferences for whom students who (i) are enrolled as full-time students in the University during the semester or academic year in which monies from the fund are use; (ii) maintain a satisfactory grade point average; and (iii) are "in good standing" as stipulated in the University catalog for Honor College students.
Saunders-Ruth Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established in memory of George and Nyla Saunders and Roger and Elizabeth Ruth. It is to be awarded to an Education Major with the first preference going to students who are from Chester County.
Shane Ruiz Memorial Endowed Scholarship:
Established in memory of Shane Ruiz. Intended to be awarded to students who need financial support to participate in the annual Dominican Republic Spring Break mission trip.
Stephen Hatchett Endowed Academic Scholarship:
Established to assist top academic in need of financial aid in order to enroll in the University.
How to Establish an Endowed Scholarship:
To set up an endowed scholarship begins with contacting Blake Beckham in the Office of Estate and Gift Planning at 731-989-6946.
It takes a minimum of $30,000 to fund an Endowed Scholarship. This amount ensures that there will be enough principal invested to produce enough interest income to pay out the benefits of the Scholarship.
Once the Scholarship is funded with the minimum $30,000 it can begin to payout benefits at a rate of 5 percent per year. Only the income from the principal is expended in accordance with the University's spending rules.
