FAQ

What is crowdfunding?
Crowdfunding allows people to come together and fund-raise to support projects that reflect a collective passion.

Where can I see examples of current campaigns?
You can see current campaigns at dreams.fhu.edu.

When are applications due?
Freed-Hardeman accepts applications on a rolling basis and will be evaluated as they are received. To apply, simply contact Ryan Malecha at rmalecha@fhu.edu.

What is a realistic financial goal?
Goal size will vary based upon the scope and nature of the project. Crowdfunding platforms are primarily used for projects with goals below $20,000, but certain projects may effectively leverage a larger goal size.

Will our group/project keep the money raised if our goal isn't reached?
Yes. Unlike some crowdfunding platforms, FHU Dreams will allow your group to receive all funds that have been raised, regardless of whether your goal has been fully reached.

What fees are charged to raise funds for a project?
Unlike platforms such as GoFundMe, FHU Dreams does not charge any fees to raise funds for a project. If your project raises $3,000, you will keep all $3,000. No fees will be taken out of the money you raise.

Who decides if a project will be approved?
Each project is evaluated by the FHU Advancement Office based on individual project requirements, objectives and overall viability. A project may be recommended for launch, delayed for possible revisions, or declined for reasons that will be provided to the applicant.

What kind of projects can be submitted?
Anyone from any of FHU’s 3 campuses can apply to have a project on FHU Dreams, provided that they are either officially affiliated with an academic unit or part of an official student group that is recognized by Office of Student Life. The most effective crowdfunding projects have a specific deadline that creates a sense of urgency to encourage donations during the (typically 30-60 day) period which a project is live.

I think my project would be a good fit, but where do I start?
If you are unsure whether your project would fit with this platform, please email Ryan Malecha at rmalecha@fhu.edu.
