FHitness for U Wellness Program Details 2010-2011
The FHitness for U 2010-2011 wellness program began on October 12, 2010. The competition is on an individual basis rather than the team competitions we have had in the past. At the end of the semester, the individuals who complete the specified activities will receive an incentive. The incentives are set up in tiers this program year. The first tier incentive will be a performance t-shirt (moisture wicking technology) with the FHitness for U logo. The second tier incentive will be a $40 Visa gift card. The third tier incentive will be aimed at recognizing "Shining Stars" of the FHitness for U wellness program with recognition. The program began on October 12, 2010 and will end on April 29, 2011.
A wellness packet can be requested at any time during the program for an employee or the spouse of an employee that is covered by the FHU Blue Cross Blue Shield medical insurance plan.
The program's components are focused on prevention and goal setting. We are encouraging a prevention visit to a physician, completion of a Health Risk Assessment, setting of wellness goals, creation of wellness partners or teams, and participation in races and competitions.
The incentive structure is below:
100 + "miles" = FHitness for U Performance t-shirt with moisture wicking technology
225 + "miles" = $40 gift card
400 + "miles" = “Shining Star” recognition award/trophy
Ways to earn "miles":
Annual prevention visit with doctor
50 "miles"
The best way to stay healthy is to prevent illness before it ever happens. An annual prevention visit with your doctor is a yearly checkup designed to monitor common health risks for your age and gender. This visit is covered under the FHU health plan as a well-care rider (up to $400) with only $20 out-of-pocket cost. Please be certain that no diagnosis is made by the doctor during the visit and codes the visit as a “well-care” visit. Complete the wellness program’s HRA and take it to your doctor to review. While you’re there, ask your doctor about what immunizations you should have. These steps will earn you an easy 50 miles, and are highly encouraged.
Complete Health Risk Assessment (HRA)
10 "miles"
The Health Risk Assessment is a health questionnaire, used to provide individuals with an evaluation of their health risks and quality of life. The completed HRA should be discussed with your physician at your annual checkup. Please contact Kay Pack or Russell Epperson to obtain a copy of the Health Risk Assessment (HRA).
Setting goals & documenting them
10 "miles"
To earn these miles, set specific, short-term, manageable goals for your wellness activities, and document them in a weekly journal. Rather than set the goal of “lose 30 pounds,” for example, set the goal of “lose 30 pounds in 6 months by running three times a week, giving up sugary beverages, and controlling my portions to my daily caloric needs .”
Attending screening in November
25 "miles"
This is an annual wellness screening that includes measurements for body fat, weight, cholesterol, and blood pressure. The date is to be determined.
Official athletic events (5K, marathon, bike race, etc.)
Double actual mileage
Any publicly sponsored athletic event may be attended for double the amount of miles the event covers (e.g., 5 K = 3.1 mi = 6.2 mi earned). Running in the event is not required; however, you must participate in the event at least by walking.
Creating an accountability partner/team
15 "miles"
It is a documented fact that accomplishing a goal is more manageable when others help keep you on task. Hopefully, joining forces with one or two friends will help you achieve yours—and provide you with an easy 15 miles. Look for more information soon about the Walk Across Tennessee program offered by the UT Extension office in Henderson.
Bible/devotional reading
1 "mile" max per week
Attend wellness seminar
10 "miles" per seminar
