Library Assistant (Night Time)

Department:   Library                        

Status:  Part-Time, Non-Exempt    (9 Months)                                         

Reports To: Library Director

Effective Date:

Effective immediately.  A six-month probationary period is in effect for all non-exempt employees.

 

Position Summary:

To maintain general library operations three-four nights per week between Sunday – Thursday evenings, when a librarian is not on duty.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Staff the circulation & reference areas of the library.
  2. Perform assigned tasks while maintaining the circulation desk.
  3. Supervise the student workers on duty.
  4. Make ad hoc decisions regarding library procedures and operations when a librarian is not on duty.
  5. Responsible for maintaining a library atmosphere.
  6. Close and secure the library each evening.
  7. Assist with cataloging duties and other special projects.
  8. Maintain and troubleshoot the printers and computers in the library.
  9. Be responsible for students and the building in case of emergency.

 

Requirements:

Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Applicant should be responsible and self-motivated with good interpersonal skills. Reliability is crucial. Must be able to handle multiple tasks.

 

Salary:

Commensurate with background and experience.
