What are the minimum MacBook requirements?

Minimum MacBook requirements:

  • 3 years old or newer
  • OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) or newer

What if something happens to my MacBook Pro? How do I get it fixed?

If MacBook Pro is covered by AppleCare and anything goes wrong with it you can call or stop by the HelpDesk and the problem will be addressed. Our technicians are certified by Apple to perform warranty repairs on your MacBook Pro and they're backed up by Apple technical support. If the issue requires you to leave your MacBook Pro behind you'll be issued a loaner MacBook Pro to use while yours is being repaired.

If you your device is not covered by AppleCare, you will be charged a repair fee.

Can I buy the equipment from FHU?

Yes. You can visit the Apple kiosk in our campus bookstore (opened Fall 2011) or go here: http://apple.com/edu/fhu anytime to purchase Apple devices.

Will my financial aid cover the cost(s)?

It is possible, but will depend on your situation. Please talk to a financial aid counselor by emailing finaid@fhu.edu or calling 731-989-6662.

What systems will we support on campus?

Since 2008, FHU has been a MacBook campus. All faculty have MacBooks and integrate them into their classroom teaching and learning environment. For this reason, we only support Macs and other Apple devices.

If I already own a PC, can I bring it instead of a MacBook?

We prefer you bring a Mac for this following reason:

Do we offer loaner computers while repairs are made?

Yes, as long as they are available.

Can I bring my own wireless access point?

No. Personal wireless access points interfere with the main FHU wireless network.

Can I still get an iPhone?

Not through FHU. You can directly deal with AT&T or Verizon. You will, however, qualify for a discount on your monthly service plan.

Is wireless available on campus?

Yes, we have a robust wireless infrastructure in place all over campus including the dorms and classrooms. It is 802.11g/n compatible.

Do students need both an iPad and MacBook?

Yes. Having both devices assures the students have all the technology devices they need to be successful at FHU.


For example, there will be times the MacBook will be needed, such as writing research papers, creating project presentations and accessing Blackboard, our learning management system, etc. In addition, all faculty have MacBooks and some make extensive use of several MacBook applications in their classrooms.


The iPad, with its 10 hour battery life and portability, will be the main device the students generally carry around on campus and always have with them. With the iPad, the students will be able read, study and interact with digital resources and digital textbooks like Inkling (http://www.inkling.com), check email, look at their schedules, access educational apps from the iTunes App Store, etc.
