iKnow Road Map

The following information is an evolving list of potential uses for instructional technology in conjunction with our iKnow Initiative.
This list also includes items that are part of our overall initiative to improve the student experience on campus.


Changes on Campus 08-09

  • WiFi access points installed in the dorms, Summer 2008
  • Print Management System allowances were increased, overage charges reduced
  • Copy machines were added to the Print Management System
  • Students were given access to print to all public printers from their own computers
  • Public printers were placed in the lobby of each dorm
  • Instructional Technology Center added


Planned Changes for 09-10

  • Continued development to build on our iKnow Application Suite
  • Begin work to add iKnow Commons areas on campus (laptop-friendly learning and study areas)
  • Identify metrics and create instruments to measure the success of the iKnow Initiative
  • Continued support of innovation in the classroom by helping faculty integrate technology into their curriculum
  • Continue to promote the iKnow Initiative
  • Upgrades to our Learning Management System, including access through iPhone App

MacBook + iPhone/iPod Touch

Uses:

  • Level the academic playing field, enabling all students with the same technology
  • Creating environments of continuous connectivity
  • Increase availability of academic tools (between classes)
  • Create a seamless integration with our iTunes U site
  • Developing applications to aid in classroom instruction (quick attendance recording, class response system)
  • Repository for course syllabi
  • Media for digital textbooks
  • Extend our student services to a mobile platform
  • Promote anytime, anywhere communication and learning


Instructional Technologist

Uses:

  • Expose faculty to Web 2.0 technologies and how these technologies can be used pedagogically
  • To be responsible for actively seeking and researching ways to improve student learning outcomes
  • To be responsible for helping faculty develop innovative ways to integrate technology into their curriculum
  • Ensure that we are using current instructional technology equipment on our campus
  • Plans, coordinates and conducts special topics workshops in the use of technologies in instruction for faculty, staff or conferences
