price for a new computer paid by students was $1,182.
2 If a student graduates in less than four years, the standard warranty will only cover three years. During the three year period,
the MacBook can only be serviced by university personnel. If a student graduates in less than four years, the accidental damage coverage cannot be provided
after graduation. OS X upgrades will be provided for three years, Windows upgrades will be provided up to four years while enrolled at Freed-Hardeman.
3 Ownership of the MacBook and its software is transferred to the student upon graduation. If a student leaves FHU or graduates early (within the program's eight semester period),
they will be given the option to buy-out their equipment.

What do I need to do?
Nothing. Participation is expected of all students that have graduated in or after 2008.
You will be required to fill out an iKnow Initiative Undergraduate Student License Agreement.

You will receive your MacBook Pro and iPhone (or iPod Touch) when you arrive on
campus. You can pick it up on Saturday, August 22
from 10:00am until 6:00pm on
the 2nd floor of the Brown Kopel Business Center, and Monday, August 24 from
9:00am until 5:00pm.
The 13" MacBook Pro is the standard student model. Students
may upgrade to the 15" MacBook Pro for an additional $85 per semester.

iKnow Opt-in Fee
The opt-in fee is determined by how many semesters you have remaining until expected graduation (after Spring 2009 semester).
- 1 semester: $1631
- 2 semesters: $1398
- 3 semesters: $1165
- 4 semesters: $932
- 5 semesters: $699
Can I participate in the iKnow Initiative*?
Yes, we have extended the opt-in period so that all current students can join the initiative.
You can do this with a one-time opt-in fee.
The "iKnow Opt-in Fee Chart" (right) shows how your fee is determined.
This is a one-time fee. After you opt-in, you will pay $349 per semester.
In order to participate in the initiative, you will need to complete an iKnow Initiative
Undergraduate Student License Agreement and an iKnow Initiative Opt-in Certification Agreement.

You can print out both forms and bring signed copies with you when you opt-in (see below).
These forms will also be made available at the HelpDesk during the opt-in period.
When can I opt-in to the iKnow Initiative? *
To opt-in, you must come to office 5 in Brown-Kopel from 8:00am - 12:00pm
or from 1:00pm - 5:00pm M-F starting Monday, April 20th - Friday, Sept. 4th.
No opt-ins will be taken after Sept. 4th.
* You will receive your equipment the week of August 24th (before classes begin in the fall).
If you opt-in after the first week of the semeseter, you will be given your equipment upon completion
of the Undergraduate Student License Agreement and the iKnow Initiative Opt-in Certification Agreement.
If I'm already an iKnow Student, can I upgrade to the new MacBook Pro model? **
Yes, current iKnow Students may upgrade to the new models.
The costs are as follows:
MacBook upgrades
(updated: 7/20/2009)
- from white MacBook (current standard model) to new aluminum 13" MacBook Pro (new standard model) the charge is $378 (non-refundable)
- from the current MacBook Pro to the new 15" MacBook Pro the one-time charge is $504 (non-refundable), plus an additional $85 per semester
- from the white MacBook to the new 15" MacBook Pro:
- a one-time charge of $504,
- plus a one time charge calculated by adding the number of semester already in iKnow + the number of semesters you opted-in (if any), multiplied by $85,
- plus an additional $85 per semester charge
iPod upgrades
- from an iPod to a new iPod is $263 and the student keeps the old iPod
- from an iPod to a new iPhone is $299 and the student keeps the old iPod
Students who upgrade must schedule a time to transfer data from their old computer during the first week
of classes in the Fall. New computers will not be given out before the appointment.
Students must complete an equipment upgrade form at the iKnow HelpDesk. Charges will be added to their account.
** The computer charge includes a nonrefundable $50 service charge.
If a student upgrades to a new model computer they must turn in their current computer.
Their current computer will be subject to a maximum $100 refurbishing fee (if needed).
