FHU Faculty Attend Christian Counselor Conference

Several members of Freed-Hardeman University’s Department of Behavioral Sciences and Family Studies and the counseling center staff recently attended the 2011 American Association of Christian Counselors World Conference. The conference, which takes place every other year, was hosted at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 28-Oct. 1.

The AACC World Conference is known as “The World’s Premier Christian Counseling Event.” Plenary speakers of the conference included T.D. Jakes, Luis Palau, Mike Huckabee, Wes Stafford, and Lee Strobel. Participants in the conference were able to attend track workshops, which covered such topics as grief, abuse, marriage, parenting, and life coaching.

Dr. Mike Cravens, Dr. Paul Helton, Dr. Dana Baldwin, Nicole Young, and Jonathan Harrison all participated in this year’s conference and earned CE credits.

Harrison, who has attended the AACC World Conference for two years, appreciates the conference because “people from many different areas of the greater Christian community come together for one common purpose, to minister to the needs of people. Some of those who attend the conference are licensed and certified professionals, others are in leadership roles at their churches, and some are simply there because they have an interest in helping others in more effective ways.”
