"FHitness for U" Concludes Year's Activities
Freed-Hardeman’s “FHitness for U” exercise training program for employees concluded May 2, 2011, with fourteen participants earning “Shining Star” status. The program began October 11, 2010, and encouraged overall wellness in FHU faculty members. Spouses and adult children more than 25 years old and covered by the FHU Blue Cross Blue Shield medical insurance plan were also eligible to participate.
The fitness initiative used a tracking system to calculate miles earned by participants. Miles could be earned by either approved physical activity, such as bicycling, aerobics, tennis, running, and walking, or by taking part in nonphysical activities that support an active lifestyle, such as an annual visit with the doctor, attending wellness screenings, or completing a Health Risk Assessment.
“FHitness for U” also offered an incentive program to encourage participation. Members who earned 100 or more miles received a t-shirt with moisture wicking technology. Those with 225 miles or more received the t-shirt and a $40 gift card. Those with 400 or more miles received the t-shirt, gift card, and a “Shining Star” recognition award.
The program participants collectively earned an impressive 15,172 miles. Forty-five participants earned at least 100 miles, 28 earned more then 225 miles, and 14 earned more than 400 miles. The 14 “Shining Stars” will receive coupons from Smoothie King, free vitamin samples from The Vitamin Shoppe, a $10 iTunes gift card, a free massage from the Henderson Massage Clinic, and a workout equipment item of their choice.
FHU faculty, staff, and family members who received the “Shining Star” award are Dave Clouse, Jason Shelton, Tom Hughes, Russell Epperson, Derrick Spradlin, Linda Wright, Hope Shull, Melissa Seratt, David Novak, Bethany Vaughan, Don Shull, Kyle Lamb, Eve Clouse, and Melanie Johnson. They will be honored in a luncheon ceremony in the upcoming weeks.
