Freed-Hardeman Honors Students' Grandparents
In correlation with National Grandparents Day, Freed-Hardeman University honored grandparents Monday, Sept. 12, with a reception, luncheon and special chapel service dedicated to grandparents worldwide.
Ben Flatt, the university’s campus grandfather, was the speaker for the chapel service. Flatt is an alumnus of Freed-Hardeman and has lived in Henderson for more than two decades.
As the campus grandparent, Flatt takes pride in the accomplishments of the FHU student body, pride certainly shared by the many grandparents in attendance. “I have about 2006 grandchildren. Six of them live in the Nashville area and range in age from eight to 22. About 2,000 of them are sitting in this auditorium right now,” Flatt said during chapel.
Betsy Hesselrode, assistant vice president of university advancement, planned FHU’s Grandparents’ Day. “Grandparents Day is great for several reasons. Being able to see the school where their grandchildren attend is memorable for them. Freed-Hardeman wants to honor our students’ grandparents and show them that we think they are special,” she said.
