The Freed-Hardeman University College Republicans are sponsoring an event entitled “Your Vote Matters: A Forum on Elections.” Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett, the chief election administrator in the state will be the featured speaker. The event will be held March 1 in Ayers Auditorium, located in the Brown-Kopel Business Center, from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m.
Hargett will speak on the primary system of elections, the upcoming presidential preference primary, the importance of voting in primaries and the new voter laws in Tennessee. He was elected Secretary of State in 2009 and oversees more than 400 employees, and serves on 15 boards and commissions. Questions and an open discussion will follow Hargett’s presentation. Students, faculty and members of the community are encouraged to attend.
The College Republicans will also host a Candidate Information Session Feb. 23 in Gardner Center Room 101 at 5:30 p.m. Members will present information on each of the four presidential primary candidates from a non-biased perspective. Jared Pack, president of the College Republicans, says, “The purpose of this session is not to persuade individuals to support a given candidate, but to instead help encourage educated voters.”
