FHU History Teacher Receives Research Fellowship

A Freed-Hardeman University history instructor has been selected as a research fellow for the 2012 Wesleyan Studies Summer Seminar hosted by Asbury University and Asbury Seminary in Wilmore, Ky. Corey Markum will be continuing work on his dissertation for the doctoral program at Auburn University.

The seminar is part of a joint collaboration with Duke University’s Summer Wesley Seminar to facilitate serious research in the field of Wesleyan Studies, broadly conceived. Approximately ten scholars are selected each year from a pool of domestic and international applicants.

Markum’s dissertation explores the tension between “denominational identity” and “southern identity” among southern Methodists in the American Civil War era.
