Secretary of State Hargett Speaks to FHU College Republicans
Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett visited Freed-Hardeman University Thursday, March 1, to speak at the College Republicans’ event, “Your Vote Matters: A Forum on Elections.” Students, faculty and members of the community were present to hear Hargett, the chief election administrator in the state, discuss primary elections.
Hargett began his presentation by discussing his role as secretary of state and the work his office has done to eliminate voter fraud. Hargett outlined the new voter laws in Tennessee, stressing the importance of a photo voter identification card.
Hargett also spoke on the importance of voting in the primary; he anticipates a busy Super Tuesday, saying, “Tennessee is one of the states that the nation is looking to on Super Tuesday.” Stating that early voting has increased fifty percent in Tennessee since the 2004 primary, Hargett said he was “proud of the work we’ve done to get the message out and conduct elections with the highest integrity.”
