Freed-Hardeman University’s Dr. Richard England is scheduled to be a featured musician at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens and Museum’s “LIGHT” exhibition in Nashville. England’s piano performance will be Friday, Aug. 2, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
“LIGHT,” designed by acclaimed British artist Bruce Munro, is described as a stunning outdoor art installation, covering the gardens at Cheekwood with hundreds of miles of glowing optic fiber. Cheekwood is hosting the second-ever North American exhibition of “LIGHT,” which previously debuted at Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania. The exhibit can be viewed Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings through Nov. 10.
Friday evenings at Cheekwood, called “First Tennessee Fridays,” add to the magic of “LIGHT” by featuring musical acts throughout the garden. England said that his performance, held in Cheekwood’s art museum, “will include works by composers such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, Debussy, Rachmaninoff, different 20th century composers and some original works.”
England, a professor of music at FHU, has performed at a variety of venues across the nation. More than 3,000 people are expected to attend his performance at Cheekwood. For more information on the event, visit www.cheekwood.org
