The Danberrys, from Nashville, will perform at Freed-Hardeman University’s 49th Annual Benefit Dinner Dec. 6. The group’s primary genre is Americana, drawing from folk, old-time country, blues and soul/funk traditions for inspiration.
Former First Lady Mrs. Laura Bush will be the featured speaker at the dinner. Other members of the Bush family including Barbara Bush and former presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush have spoken at the school’s annual fundraiser.
At the heart of The Danberrys are Dorothy Daniel and Ben DeBerry. Both FHU alumni, the two married in 2006. Daniel performs vocals, guitar and percussion. DeBerry performs vocals and plays the guitar.
Other members of the group include: Ethan Ballinger playing guitar, keys, mandolin and mandola and singing; Christian Sedelmeyer playing the fiddle; and Jon Cavendish playing the bass.
The couple recorded their first EP, “Company Store,” in April 2011. In 2012, they were joined by Ballinger, Sedelmeyer, and Cavendish to record their first full-length album. The self-titled album was released in March 2013. The group performs at festivals throughout the Southeast and Western North Carolina.
