Bankers Association Contributes to East-Woods Scholarship Fund

OCTOBER 21, 2013

The West Tennessee Bankers Association has made a contribution to the East-Woods Scholarship Fund at Freed-Hardeman University. The scholarship, established in 1997, is awarded annually to a graduate of Chester County High School who is planning to attend Freed-Hardeman University.

Twenty-seven years ago Bob East, an FHU alumnus and a member of the university’s Advisory Board, began a golf tournament so that area bankers would have an opportunity to discuss issues while teeing off. Proceeds from the tournament were used to benefit the scholarship. Since East’s death, Bruce Hamblen, vice president of Chester County bank and president of Farmers and Merchants Bank of Adamsville, and David Greene, senior vice president of Plateau Group, Inc., have coordinated the tournament.

“We are extremely grateful to the West Tennessee Bankers Association for their continued generosity to this scholarship fund,” FHU President Joe Wiley said. “Chester County students for many years to come will reap the benefits of this fund.”
