Freed-Hardeman University Human Resources Director Russell Epperson is currently serving a three-year term as a member of the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness. Governor Phil Bredesen made the appointment last year. According to the council’s website, the council was “created to address the health and fitness needs of all Tennesseans through the promotion of healthy lifestyles.”
Epperson directs the university’s “FHitness for U” program designed to assist faculty and staff in improving their physical fitness. The program won the council’s Shining Star Award for 2010. The award highlights exceptional wellness programs offered by communities, businesses, and schools. FHU’s program utilizes educational efforts and incentives to encourage healthier living.
In addition to his wellness work with the university, Epperson has begun writing a weekly column for the local Chester County Independent.
