FHU Athletics to Host UT Football Coach at Annual Fundraiser

Henderson, Tenn. - Mar 09, 2016

Butch Jones, head football coach of the University of Tennessee Volunteers, will speak at Freed-Hardeman University Friday, April 22, 2016. FHU’s Sports Advisory Council will host the dinner and speech to raise funds for the university’s intercollegiate athletics program.

A patron ticket, available for $50 each, admits one person to the dinner and the program. General admission tickets for the program only are $30 for adults and $15 for students. Sponsorships with additional perks are also available from the athletics office.

Jones, the 24th head football coach of the University of Tennessee Vols, took the reins of the program following the 2012 season. Since that time, the team has shown steady improvement. After a losing season in 2013, the teams have posted 7-6 and 9-4 records and made two victorious bowl appearances.

A relentless recruiter, Jones and his staff have signed consensus top five recruiting classes in each of the last two years. This year’s class is generally considered to be in the top 20.

Jones came to Knoxville from Cincinnati where his Bearcats had a 23-14 record in three years under his leadership.  He was also the head coach at Central Michigan for two years. He was an assistant coach at Central Michigan, West Virginia, Ferris State and Wilkes University.

Jones stresses success in the classroom to his players and they have listened. The program has the highest team GPA in program history, including a 2.85 in Spring 2015. Nearly 100 players had GPAs of 3.0 or better during the 2014-15 academic year with 46 players earning honors in the fall and 52 in the spring.

The event begins at 4:30pm in Brewer Sports Center with a silent auction which continues until 6:00pm. Dinner, catered by Sodexo will be served 5-6:30pm. The program featuring Jones is set to start at 6:45pm. The sponsors’ photo session will be 8-9pm.
