FHU’s RUSH to Collaborate with BBQ Festival Sept. 29-Oct. 1

Henderson, Tennessee - Aug 15, 2017

Freed-Hardeman University expects a “RUSH” of visitors Sept. 29-Oct. 1 for its annual event for middle and high school students. Approximately 2,000 guests are anticipated for RUSH (Reaching Unlimited Spiritual Heights), specifically designed to help students grow closer to God and one another.

This year the FHU Office of Admissions has joined forces with Chester County Chamber of Commerce’s Annual BBQ Festival to expand entertainment and food options for both RUSH guests and festival attendees. Friday’s free concert featuring Firekid will begin at 9:00pm on Main Street (in a section closed to traffic). An opening act sponsored by the Henderson Arts Commission will take the stage at 7:00pm

Firekid, based in Nashville, combines originator Dillon Hodges’ love of Americana music with an electro-indie influence. Hodges grew up on bluegrass and won first place in a national flat-picking guitar competition by the time he was 17. He is a native of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and a graduate of the University of North Alabama.

New FHU President David R. Shannon will be featured Saturday afternoon in “The Presidential Address” session. Keynote lessons will center on the theme, “We Believe,” based on I John 5:5. Speakers and topics include: Brandon Britton Friday evening with “I Am Able;” Jeremy Hall Saturday evening with “We Are Able;” and Garrett Best Sunday morning with “He Is Able.” A full slate of classes and additional entertainment, including a performance by a campus favorite, hypnotist Jim Wand, are also planned for the weekend.

Guests may register for RUSH when they arrive on campus Friday, Sept. 29, from 5:00pm - 10:00pm at the Welcome Center. The fee is $35 per person if lunch and dinner are included and $25 if students provide their own meals. Both options include a t-shirt and a RUSH packet. Students may make their own arrangements to stay with FHU students in the dorms, or housing is available in Brewer Sports Center. Group housing is available at Mid-South Youth Camp, also. Additional RUSH information is available at fhu.edu/rush.
