FHU Sports Information Director to Leave University

Henderson, Tennessee - Jun 11, 2015

Freed-Hardeman University’s sports information director, John Armstrong, is leaving the university for a position at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. Eckerd is an NCAA Division II school that competes in the Sunshine State Conference.

Armstrong greatly increased the FHU Lions’ presence on social media during his tenure in the position. The athletics website placed in the top ten among in-house athletics sites in the NAIA-SIDA publication contests for the last four years.  In addition, FHU has won several other NAIA-SIDA publication awards for media guides and feature stories.

In addition to Armstrong’s work in sports information, he coached the FHU golf teams for four years. Both teams posted new school record scores and a golfer qualified for the national tournament for the first time in school history during Armstrong’s time as coach.

“We appreciate the good work John did here over the last seven years,” FHU Athletic Director McCutchen said. “We wish him and his family well as they move to Florida and he begins his duties at Eckerd.” Armstrong will conclude his work at FHU at the end of June.

FHU has begun the search for a new SID, according to McCutchen. The university hopes to have one in place by July 1.
