FHU to Host Touring Production of “Julius Caesar”

Henderson, Tenn. - Feb 12, 2016

The American Shakespeare Center will present William Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar” Thursday, February 18, at 7:00pm in Freed-Hardeman University’s Loyd Auditorium. FHU Theatre and the Henderson Arts Commission will host the free performance as a part of FHU’s spring Connections Series.

ASC On Tour comes from the Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, Virginia. They present Shakespearean plays as Shakespeare’s troupe performed them — on a bare stage surrounded by audience members who share the same light with the actors, each of whom play multiple roles.

Likely written in 1599, the tragedy is based on actual events from Roman history. Despite the title, Caesar is not the most prominent character in the play. Marcus Brutus has more lines, and his inner struggle is the central focus of the play.
