The Journal of Pastoral Care & Counseling has published an article written by a graduate of Freed-Hardeman University’s Master of Science in mental health counseling. Larry Redmond, who received his M.S. in 2012, did the research for the article while an FHU graduate student.
The article, “Spiritual Coping Tools of Religious Victims of Childhood Sexual Abuse,” was published in the March 2014 issue of the journal. Redmond surveyed religious victims of childhood sexual abuse regarding general coping strategies, religious practices used in the healing process, and self-report of current life satisfaction. Redmond concluded that forgiveness as a coping tool had the most significant correlation with positive life satisfaction.
Dr. Ryan Fraser, FHU assistant professor of counseling, and Micah Smith, director of institutional research, assisted Redmond in his research.
