It’s the week when alumni, family and friends of Freed-Hardeman University return to Henderson for Homecoming. Scheduled for Nov. 4-9, this year’s event has something for everyone to enjoy.
FHU Theatre will present “The Secret Garden,” a musical based on the classic children’s novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The showings are Nov. 7-9 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. in Loyd Auditorium. Tickets are $10 for general admission.
Saturday’s events begin with the Homecoming 5K for Mid-South Youth Camp. Registration starts at 7 a.m. in the Brewer Sports Center Auxiliary Gym, with the race to follow at 8 a.m. For more information, contact Ryan Malecha at email@example.com.
The FHU Associates will host a pancake and sausage breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. in Auxiliary Gym. Tickets are $3 for children three and under with all others paying $5 per person. All proceeds will support student scholarships.
Additional events include Homecoming Marketplace, a chapel presentation in Old Chapel Hall and tailgating on the Brewer Sports Center lawn. Class reunions will be conducted in Auxiliary Gym at 11:30 a.m.
The Lady Lion basketball game will begin at 1 p.m. The Student-Alumni Association will present the 2013 Homecoming court during halftime of the women’s game. The Lion basketball game begins at 3 p.m., with the Homecoming trophy being awarded during halftime. Tickets for both games are $5.
The Office of Alumni Relations and the Student-Alumni Association organize student competitions throughout Homecoming week. Activities include “Puff It Up,” a flag-football competition; “Rev It Up,” a soapbox derby race; and “Pep It Up,” a pep rally for students and alumni.
