Old Main Restoration Committee to Host Jewelry, Art Sale

Henderson, Tenn. - Oct 28, 2015

The Chester County committee for the restoration of Old Main will host a fundraiser Saturday, Nov. 7, 10:00am - 2:00pm, in the Old Main Lobby. Jewelry from Premier Designs and Old Main art by California artist Jeff Doyle will be for sale. All profits from the event will go toward the restoration of Old Main.

Janet Blank, daughter of Kay and the late Larry Tignor, represents Premier Jewelry and is hosting the show. The Tignors have been leaders in the effort to restore the historic building.

The Chester County Campaign for the restoration of Old Main on the campus of Freed-Hardeman University has reached the $1 million mark but is trying to meet an additional challenge of $90,000 to receive a $10,000 gift, according to Milton Sewell, FHU chancellor. The effort is a part of a larger campaign to raise $5.5 million to restore the structure built in 1908 by A.G. Freed and N.B. Hardeman.

The Old Main project will restore all the important common spaces, including hallways, lobbies, stairways and Chapel Hall. Secondary spaces such as classrooms and offices will be renovated with designs complimentary to the original architectural design, but they will have the technological capabilities of a contemporary space.
