Freed-Hardeman Faculty Honors Local Student

Freed-Hardeman University presented its Faculty Scholarship-Leadership medal to a Cookeville student Saturday, May 14, at commencement exercises. Ethan Bilbrey was chosen by vote of the faculty to receive the award.

Bilbrey graduated summa cum laude, receiving a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Bible. Dr. Billy Smith, dean of the FHU School of Biblical Studies, described him as “sterling in character, attitude, ability and leadership.” On campus, Bilbrey led a missions group and has participated in mission campaigns to Argentina, Haiti, and Peru. He intends to do full-time mission work in Cusco, Peru.

The Freed-Hardeman faculty began awarding in 1938 a medal to the student in the graduating class who possesses to the highest degree the attributes of ability, quality of work, accuracy, love of knowledge, and leadership. Alpha Chi Honor Society also presents a cash award to the recipient.
