FHU STUDENT-ALUMNI ASSOCATION MEMBERS RECOGNIZED

| The
Freed-Hardeman University Student-Alumni Association
(SAA) honored 16 of its members at the group's
annual Spring Banquet, hosted April 27 at the
Hard Rock Café in Memphis, Tenn. The students
received awards for their service at various on-
and off-campus events, where they are recognized
as a liaison between the current university student
body and university alumni.
At the banquet, a Service Pin, for 40 hours of
service with the organization, was awarded to
senior Ashley Collins. Bronze Pins, for 75 cumulative
hours of service, were awarded to sophomore Brett
Beckham, senior Julie Fair, freshman Mikeal Gossage,
sophomore Kevin Turbeville, sophomore Courtney
Wilson and senior Stephanie Woodall. Silver Pins,
for 150 cumulative hours of service, were awarded
to junior Ryan Brackett, senior Michael Broome,
junior Teona Chincharauli, junior Jesse Elmore,
senior Kari Funk, senior Michael Gueltig, junior
Laura Beth Henry, senior Cory Lamb and senior
Tara Cole.
SAA, founded in 1979, is a campus group seen in
many public venues. The purpose of the group,
according to alumni relations director Dawn Bramblett,
is to maintain relations between current students
and university alumni. Before joining the organization,
students who have applied undergo an interview
process by SAA staff sponsors.

FREED-HARDEMAN STUDENTS RECEIVE ASAP RECOGNITION

| Two
Freed-Hardeman University students were in the
spotlight at February's 2002 District 3 Conference
of the Association of Student Advancement Programs
(ASAP), hosted by the University of Tennessee
at Knoxville. At the conference, senior Laura
Beth Henry(pictured left) was named Outstanding
Student Leader for District 3, while sophomore
Courtney Wilson(pictured below) was named ASAP's
Tennessee representative. Sixty-nine colleges
and universities are represented in the district.
In the two-year state representative position,
Wilson will be responsible for maintaining relations
with the ASAP national office in Washington, D.C.,
and serving as a communication and information
source for other ASAP-member colleges and universities
in Tennessee.
Both Wilson and Henry are members of the FHU Student
Alumni Association,
an organization serving as a liaison between current
university students and alumni. Henry is president
of the organization for the 2001-02 school year.
ASAP, a program of the Council for Advancement
and Support of Education (CASE), is an alliance
of college and university student organizations
providing a network for student-leadership development,
thereby incorporating student involvement in educational
advancement. The organization consists of more
than 350 student-run programs in eight districts,
covering the United States, Canada and the United
Kingdom.
