Every April, Freed-Hardeman Athletics partners with the Sports Advisory Council to host the SAC Benefit Dinner. This year's featured speaker was legendary football coach Bobby Bowden, a member of the college football hall of fame and well-known for his run of success at Florida State University.
According to Freed-Hardeman Athletic Director Mike McCutchen, roughly 650 attended the event which raised approximately $40,000. All proceeds from the dinner and auction go directly to support athletics at FHU.
"It was great to see so many from Chester County as well as many supporters from the surrounding area," he said.
Each year, all Freed-Hardeman student-athletes and athletics staff are required to work the event in various capacities from monitoring the silent auction to serving guests at dinner.
"Our staff and student-athletes did a great job and really made our guests feel welcomed," said McCutchen. "They represented FHU Athletics in a positive manner."
After the silent auction and live auction, which was conducted by Larry Gillam, Coach Bowden took the podium and spoke about his experiences in coaching and the importance of Jesus Christ in his profession.
"Coach Bowden was very entertaining and informative," said McCutchen. "It was great to hear from someone who has experienced so much. He was very down-to-earth and was willing to do anything we asked of him."
Previous speakers have included former Tennessee Titan Eddie George, NBA legend Jerry West, and longtime St. Louis Cardinal shortstop Ozzie Smith.
