Freed-Hardeman University’s Lady Lion basketball team will make its 16th consecutive appearance in the NAIA national tournament March 14 in Frankfort, Ky. FHU, a number one seed, will take on Avila University of Kansas City, Mo., at 4 p.m. in the Frankfort Convention Center.
Ranked third in the final NAIA poll, FHU is the top seed in the third quadrant of the tournament (Click here to view the bracket). FHU finished second in the TranSouth Athletic Conference tournament, losing 55-47 to conference champion Union University. The Lady Lions enter the tournament with a 28-5 record.
Avila, 21-9, represents the Heart of America Conference. They received one of the conference’s two automatic bids. They also qualified for the tournament last year.
The Lady Lions have made three Fab Four appearances in the national tournament, including one last year. Since the NAIA began its Top 25 Coaches’ Poll in 1999, only three teams have appeared in all of its 149 polls, Union University, Oklahoma City and Freed-Hardeman.
