Sonshine Singers Reflect on Precious Memories

Alumni // April 7, 2017

“If I didn't already have some idea about ‘Precious Memories,’ I definitely do now,” Winston Harless, former director of the Sonshine Singers, said. “God certainly blessed us with a wonderful reunion.”

Members of the group Harless directed at Freed-Hardeman University 1983-89 met again Feb. 5-6, 2016, in Sheffield, Alabama, for a weekend of reminiscing and, naturally, singing. “Soon and Very Soon,” the children’s medley, and “God’s Family” came alive as their voices once again joined together.

“It was as if you had rolled the clock back 30 years! The singing was amazing and such a spiritual uplift for all of us,” Todd Chastain, member of the group in 1983 at the beginning of “the Winston years,” said. “When I think of my time at Freed-Hardeman, this group is what comes to mind. I have made lifelong friendships and have memories that will last forever.“

Although some of the group had not seen each other in 25-30 years, they do not plan to wait so long for the next reunion. Harless said he had already spoken with some of the group about another reunion in a couple of years. Next time they may do it “a little differently,” so members should stay in touch for another chance to reunite and make more “precious memories.”
