The retreat was very successful; it gave us an opportunity not only to discuss plans for the upcoming year, but to be more familiar with each other. Several goals were discussed for the upcoming year; it was stated that to achieve these goals, we must all take on responsibility and be able to communicate readily-especially by email. Any emails received by another member of SGA will require an immediate response.

The four goals of each committee were discussed, and they are as follows:

Spiritual Life

1. Student-Led Revival-speakers, date, etc.
2. Small Group Bible Studies
-this could conflict with Chi Beta Chi’s small group Bible studies because most of our leaders from last year are involved with these Bible studies
3. Spiritual Life Calendar
-information concerning dorm devotional, club devotionals, campus-wide devotionals, etc.
4. One more thing-possibly door knocking, packing pews, accountability partners, supporting missions, etc.

Campus Life

1. Campus Improvement Challenge II
-any organization is given $400 dollars to improve the campus; we pick the best idea
-Bobby Mays Playground was last year’s project
2. 5K Homecoming Run
-Saturday of Homecoming-second weekend in November
-must call police department so we can block off the road
-will need fruit, bagels, and water for runners
-will require an entry fee that will go to SGA
3. FHU Fan Days
-the first will be on Tuesday, August 31 at 2:30 PM for the soccer game at FHU
-we will be giving away free sno cones, hot dogs, and/or popcorn; pop ice was also a suggestion
-possibly have one or two for every sport to get the student body involved in intercollegiate athletics
4. SGA Board in the Student Center
5. One other original idea decided on by the committee

Rules and Regulations

1. Deal with the confusion about where to park on campus-possibly better parking signs
2. Student Voice Forms
-must be responded to within a week by any SGA member
-this committee usually receives the most voice forms
3. Improve Website
-send all information to Kelly Redd at kredd@fhu.edu
-post the Gano menu
4. 1 miscellaneous idea of your choice

Food Service

This committee has had very good communications with Robert Buske and Richard Taylor in the past; this has helped us achieve better results. Examples include the improvement of tea in Gano and having more skim milk readily available.

1. Watch how to make Gano more healthy.
2. Keep track of all comments about Gano from students, write these down, and discuss them at SGA meetings
3. Answer food-related student voice forms (there are usually several)
4. One other thing chosen by this committee

Committee Chairs

Campus Life-Mikey Hickman
Rules and Regulations-Brian Peacock
Food Service-Olivia Bradford
Spiritual Life-? (undecided at this time; officers and sponsor will choose a chair)

We also discussed the main goal of SGA as a whole. We must have the appropriate outlook and motivation if we are to succeed. We do not exist only to have fun, for prestige, or to put it on our resume. The main goal of SGA is to serve the student body; we are their voice and must make sacrifices to do this job well. In the upcoming year, we want to make a conscious effort to use other people outside of SGA to assist us with this goal. Through this effort and good communication, it will be a great year in SGA!!!
